St. Kitts and Nevis Ambassador Henry-Martin Confirmed to Moderate 2011 Invest Caribbean Luncheon

Her Excellency, Jacinth Henry-Martin, St. Kitts and Nevis Ambassador to the U.S., Chair of the Caucus of CARICOM Ambassadors is confirmed to moderate the 2011 Invest Caribbean Luncheon during the 13th Annual Caribbean American Business Leadership Dialogue on November 11, 2011 at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C. Convened by the Institute of Caribbean Studies, the one-day symposium will consist of sessions on emerging investment opportunities in biofuel, pharmaceuticals and food production under the theme, “Mining The Agribusiness Value Chain.”

The luncheon discussion, “Stories From The Field: Connecting The Diversity of Emerging Opportunities,” will feature real-life scenarios and lessons learned shared by experts in the field to guide sustainable partnerships within the agribusiness sector.  Ambassador Henry-Martin also serves as the Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States, and previously was the Federation’s Deputy High Commissioner in the United Kingdom.

ICS will bring together policymakers, private sector stakeholders, farmers, and program managers for the day’s dialogue, which extends beyond making profits but prioritizes driving the development of the region. The candid exchange will also provide a platform within a trusted mechanism for small businesses to obtain resources on how to access and leverage financing within these sectors. Confirmed speakers include Dr. André Gordon, Food Safety Expert; Mark Wenner of the Inter-American Development Bank; David Walden of Winrock International; Tamera Maxwell of Export-Import Bank; and Dr. Emeka Nwankwo of Vertical Optimization, LLC.

Conference Chair and ICS Board Member, Dr. Nsombi Jaja, who serves as the Managing Director at Quality Management Consultancy Co. Ltd., a leading provider of ISO 9000 services in the Caribbean, is keenly aware of the growth potential for the agribusiness sector in the Caribbean through her work with key regional organizations and institutions.  Agribusiness was the lifeblood of the Caribbean in its birth,” she said, “and will become so again in the decade again.”

Join us on 11.11.11 to find out how you can profit from this growing sector.

INVEST CARIBBEAN the Caribbean American Business Leaders dialogue launched by ICS in 1999 is a space for entrepreneurs and others interested in trade and investment in the Caribbean to dialogue with policy makers and government officials about the opportunities and challenges of successful business development in the Caribbean.   INVEST CARIBBEAN is one of ICS' Business Development Projects aimed at ensuring that the public sees beyond the sea, sand and sun of the tourism to the multi-billlion dollars of business opportunities that lie n the Caribbean.

INVEST CARIBBEAN 2011 -  MINING THE AGRICULTURE VALUE CHAIN will focus on agribusiness, which is one of the key drivers for economic growth and employment in the region.   Whether growing crops for biofuel, or food, or the pharmaceutical industry, this sector promises to be a gamechanger for trade and investment in the Caribbean.  US agriculture trade with the Caribbean exceeded US$1.2B  in 2010 with demonstrated capacity for increase.  See ICS ISSUE BRIEF on US Agricultural Trade Policy with the Caribbean.
